It’s summer time for half the world at least and perpetual summer in SL if you like it that way, so I thought I’d share with you some tips for beach preparedness. Don’t forget your handy bomb backpack from Rebel Xtravaganza. These are great for getting rid of pesky bugs, annoying people, entire beaches, etc. You’ll also need some fabulous goggles like these pink ones from Miau Haus to protect your eyes from the sun and to help you people watch without people knowing.

You need to wear something cute that will remind you to pick up some ice cream before you really melt, and this melting candy top from ~momo~ could be just the ticket. Heels like these “Wrap me up Dolly” ones in Crazy Barbie Pink from Periquita are a must so you can poke the people next to you to make them get the ice cream for you while you relax. Along with that, you can’t forget a skin like this Hope sunkissed skin in the Gig makeup from Tuli that makes you look so adorable that the people you poke will be utterly enchanted by you and run off to do your bidding without question.

But most importantly, you need the perfect hair to pull your whole outfit together and make you smile and feel beautiful and grab the attention of all the people you want to be seen by. Luckily for you, I know the perfect hair, and it’s free with a small bit of effort and a little patience on your part. Kavar has made this awesome Sugared Raspberry version of his popular Courtney hair, and it’s free to everyone with Exile listed in their profile picks. Teleport to Exile and open up the picks section of your profile to add Exile to your picks, and then after 24-48 hours, you can come back to Exile and touch the Sugared Raspberry Courtney vendor box at the front of the store to receive the hair. You’ll still have plenty of time to run to the beach and put all these tips into action!

Lavea Alter of A Bomb passed the baton to me in the fashionable relay challenge, and I chose to take her LoveCats facial piercings and run with them. They’re a little more extreme than the piercings I normally wear, and I decided to try to make them work in a girlier outfit that still has a bit of edge. Let’s see how I managed to do.

I was in the mood for big hair, so I picked Felicia from Exile, and the blue I chose started the color theme. That blue reminded me of the luminous eyeshadow on the skins Tuli recently gave to her group, and I chose the gothic tone because it seemed so cool against the dark blue hair. Then I skipped all the way down to the tights and shoes because I love both of these items and never find enough things to really show them off.

You can’t go wrong with black so I put on the Schadenfreude Strix corset and then tried a variety of jackets and undershirts and skirts and everything else in my inventory until I hit on the buckle corset from Torridwear with the perfect colors to pull the outfit together. The petal skirt from Rebel -X- gave a touch of whimsy, and its sheerness let me show off even more of the tights. The finishing touches were my Shiny Things choker tinted purple and the Katat0nik Achariya cuffs with an awesome HUD that lets me mix and match them with everything.

Now I happily pass the baton along to the ever adorable Dove Swanson, and purely by coincidence, the poses I used here are from her shop Long Awkward Pose.

As Achariya writes, we her faithful minions follow. Seriously, I can’t help that she comes up with great ideas for blog posts! I’ve been saying for days now that I’m going to write a blog post for the posemaker challenge, and I’m finally making the time for it. Posemakers do seem to be one of those classes of unsung heroes in SL. None of us would have interesting photos without them, and yet they’re very often missing in credits lists.

One of my go-to posemakers is Luth Brodie of Reel Expression. I started looking for poses for my SL photos within my first month or so, and Luth’s shop was one of the first I found. Her poses helped me figure out I should look for in a good pose because they were so cleanly made without distorting my shape or my clothes. I always feel very natural when using her poses, and in fact, I use several of the stands in her curvy casual AO in my current AO rotation. That curvy factor is another reason why I so appreciate Luth. She has created versions of many of her poses to fit curvier avatars, and when she put together a huge pack of all her curvy poses, I ran over to buy them all as soon as I could. Thanks to her I can put my hands on my hips and not in my hips, and I can put my arms across my chest without losing them in my chest.

Because I wanted to focus on the great lines of these poses, I went with a simple outfit, the kind of form-fitting clothes I typically wear when I’m trying out new poses actually. I do want to pay a bit of special attention to the skin I’m wearing though. Teagan was kind enough to give me some of the newest skins at Tea Lane, and I really like this Treacle shade in contrast to my usual paler skin choice. As always at Tea Lane, the price is extremely reasonable for any shopper at $200L for both a freckled and unfreckled version, and there are a couple of skin tones darker than this one, including a new one called Chocolate, as well as several lighter ones.

Don’t worry about wearing the same thing as someone else. It just means the other person has good taste too. *grins* I love seeing people wearing things I already own because it inspires me to try new things and/or reminds me of other things buried in my inventory.

Winter Jefferson and Elusyve Jewell challenged the SL community to give some tribute to those who inspire, entertain, and/or educate us. I decided that I needed to write a little something about the first SL fashion blogger I ever added to my feed reader – Hethr Engle of Closet Crisis. She was also the star of my first SL fangirl moment when I ran into her and Violet Voltaire at a Deviant Kitties sale back in July or August of 2007. I became a fan of Closet Crisis because the outfits were always clearly displayed with accompanying slurls and because Hethr is a wizard at pulling together pieces from a range of different outfits and making them work.

In the spirit of paying homage to Hethr, I put together an outfit that picks up some of the things I associate with her and then tried to put my photos together in that iconic Closet Crisis style. When I think Hethr, I think blonde hair, hazel eyes, pink, bows, flats, and Violet Voltaire jewelry, so I worked with those elements to come up with the outfit below. Hethr, thank you for continuing to make fashion fun and accessible for all of us who love your way with outfits.

Rumors have been swirling about a bunny invasion on the fashion feeds. The first rule of bunny blogger week seems to be that we don’t actually talk about bunny blogger week so pay no attention to this paragraph or to Achariya‘s post about the same. I’ll simply agree with her that Plurk is the breeding ground for many fun ideas and move on to the clothing on this bunny.

I started with the idea of doing something that would avoid complete cute overload, which is a hard task when you start with an avatar as cute as this bunny, and I definitely knew I didn’t want to wear shoes because I love these paws and their pink pads. The first step was finding hair that adjusted well for the bunny head, and I chose Exile’s Axel dreadlocks in the blizzard shade. Then I just began adding purple and black until I ended up with a look that I liked. It’s a really simple casual look for when my bunny self is tired of the kawaii look and the big poofy lolita dresses that look so cute on her.

Yuvi suggested a few things for me as part of the Dress Me Up challenge. “I think you would like some tops from Twosome. They have great drawn-in details like in your leotard there. Shoes from ETD because they are so affordable right now (Starley Pumps?). How about a girly skirt from Tree of SL or BP*?” First I just have to say thanks for making me finally go to Twosome! I’d heard of them a while ago and even passed by the shop at least once, but I’d never shopped there, and I walked away with some great hand drawn tops that are really cheap and also come on every possible clothing layer. They had other items as well like socks and leggings, but it was the tops that really grabbed me on this trip.

I also needed the reminder to stop by ETD before the big sale ends on Dec. 26. I’d totally forgotten that I hadn’t shopped the sale there yet and walked away with several huge packs of clothing and shoes. I decided to pair the Heather boots with this instead of going with pumps. The boots just seemed to keep everything a little more casual, which I liked. This outfit reminds me of the kind of thing I wore to parent meetings back when I was a preschool teacher in real life.

And can you believe that as many times as I’ve been to BP* and have bought furniture and decorative items there, I’ve never ever bought clothing there? This time, however, I went there on a mission to get a cute skirt, and I think this pink patterned one works so well with the Twosome tops I layered. Thank you very much Yuvi for getting me out to some places I’ve overlooked!

Ashia Tomsen, one of the Free*Style bloggers, gave me a lot of room to play when she shared her suggestion for dressing me up. “I’d like to see you in Paper Couture, with some Sn@tch thrown in there mebbe…ooh and some Peturb Ation <3.”

This outfit involved no shopping, but I spent a lot of time digging through my inventory and throwing things together to see how they looked. I only have a couple of pieces from Paper Couture, and I kept coming back to the Night Heron dress because of the mix of zebra print and feathers, and then that led to me grabbing the corset from one of my favorite dresses, the Hellbound from Sn@tch, because of the awesome zebra print on the back of that. I was listening (as usual lately) to the song “So What” by P!nk, so maybe that’s why everything I tried seemed to take a rock star turn. My PERTURB/ation touch is the caged heart choker that I absolutely love, and then I kept accessorizing with a belt and pants from Sn@tch. The Voodoo hair seemed to go well with everything else, and merlot, one of the new shades, even matched the color of the dress and pulled it all together.

Thanks Ashia for dressing me! I had a lot of fun putting this one together.

The lovely Achariya, the one who began the Dress Me Up challenge, gets to dress me up in this post. She suggested, “I’d love to see you do elf — like with Schadenfreude’s Thistle Tenno skin and pointy ears (I think the skin color is light purple), and then a medieval look from Evie’s closet. This might be expensive, though! For a cheaper option, elven ears from Illusions and a medieval dress from miriel’s.” When I read that, I may have actually shouted for joy because that was just the excuse I’d been waiting for to buy some elf ears! I’ve been staring at cute elf ears in shops for the longest time, but for some reason, I just couldn’t get myself to buy any of them until now.

I went back to several places in my quest for the perfect elf ears for me, and I ended up exactly where I suspected I might. Illusions had the selection of shapes, sizes, and piercings that seemed to call to me the most, and I eventually decided on the elfin ear shape with the mystic piercings style. Then I needed to decide what skin I thought I’d wear the most with the ears to help me choose between the various skin tone options, and I decided to return to a pink and pale gray skin named Glitter Goth that lends a bit of otherworldly magic to any look. I picked up the natural skin tones pack so that I could tint the lightest shade to the gray I wanted. The tinting took a bit longer than I expected because I’m a perfectionist, but I finally got close enough for me. Siyu Suen, the owner of Illusions, actually offers a custom color matching service for a small fee if you find that you can’t get close to your preferred tone, which I think is a really nice touch.

While at Illusions, I was reminded of the Amirah headpiece, and it insisted on becoming part of my inventory as well. Then it was time to go dress shopping! I went straight to Evie’s Closet as Achariya suggested because it’s been quite a while since I purchased anything there, and I knew I’d find a wealth of choices. The other dresses didn’t have a chance though once I spotted the Caterina gown in Snow. Perfection!

Evie’s Closet is located on the Oubliette sim now along with Balderdash and Winx Home & Garden, and in addition to the great shopping, Oubliette is set up for lovely wintry photos. Both of my photos in this post were taken there, and I know I’ll be back for more photos in the future. Thanks so much to Achariya for dressing me, and my elf side will probably come out to play again soon because I’m in love with these ears!

Phire suggested “some bustle butted victorian era dress” for me in the Dress Me Up challenge, and it was a walk down memory lane in more ways than one. When I first came to SL, I spent a lot of my time exploring and shopping in Caledon. In fact I had so much fun thinking back to my early days of wandering that I couldn’t decide on just one dress to show here. The first dress is an updated one by Ivalde, and Neferia is generously trading a new version of the dress to those who send her their old versions. The Dorothea dress has multiple attachments to create that bustle and flare look, and it moves beautifully. I accessorized both of the dresses with some cameo jewelry from my inventory because I love a good cameo.

The second dress, the Lady Gambler by Silver Dollar, is one of the first dresses that caught my eye in Caledon. As the name would suggest, it reminds me a bit of Annabelle Bransford, Jodie Foster’s character in the movie Maverick. The blend of colors is subtle and gorgeous, and the little details like the tied lace around the neck in the front and the opening in the back with more lace make this a dress I still find just as beautiful as I ever did.
