I think it would be hard for anyone not to know about the devastating earthquake that struck Christchurch New Zealand this week. I don’t think pictures or video can completely convey the devastation but just for an idea I would recommend a look at these sliding before and after photos found on the tv3 website. Watching the coverage here from the north island has been heartbreaking and inspiring in equal measure. The damage and loss is so great but seeing how people all over this country and even all over the world have come together to help and support each other is something that keeps me thinking positive.
I was touched again when I saw the same effect happening in Second Life in the form of the Garden City Relief event put together by Shelly Toonie. Many amazing designers from SL are putting forth a special collection of items all the proceeds of which will be donated to the New Zealand Red Cross. Brandy and I knew right away we had to be involved.
From Exile you will find a naturals pack of a new hair called Hope, the pack is 200L.
And from Shine you will find a pack of 5 exquisite eyes including prim counterparts for 200L
Click to Visit the Garden City Relief in world.
I hope that everyone that everyone will take time to check out the event and the many other items on offer. Check out the Garden City Relief of second life website for a list of vendors and other updates to the event and check out the flickr group to see the other great items available. If you want to donate directly inworld you can do so by sending your donations to the charity avatar GardenCityRelief Resident.
For anyone not able to make it to the event or more comfortable doing things off world you can donate directly to the New Zealand Red Cross.
There are several other ways of donating as well and several organizations which Catero Revolution covered in his great post at Strawberry Singh’s blog.
Even the smallest amount makes a difference.
Take care of each other.
