Retro Scraps in Exile

Laid Back (by Brandy Rasmuson)

After a number of days dressing a little girly in my twirly dresses and wings and doll keys among other items, I decided I needed a change of pace. I thought I might go a little more urban, and I immediately decided to build an outfit around one of my favorite male hairs from Exile – Smoke. Although the knit cap on Smoke comes with a lot of textures, I really like the basic brown, so I settled on that and then picked a blonde shade, Sahara, to contrast with the cap.

Once I chose the cap, the rest of the outfit was put together to stay with that brown theme. I happen to love the tank tops from Kitty Scraps because they come in beautifully shaded colors and unique designs. The jeans are part of the freebie gift in the main Exile shop and ones I wear a lot for casual days because they just look so comfortably worn in. After I had put together most of the outfit, I went wandering around looking the grid as I’m prone to do, and I happened to run across Ducknipple, a shop I hadn’t gone through in ages. The Retro Toys Belt cried out to me so loudly that I had to buy it, and it ended up being that little touch of whimsy and fun that the outfit really needed to feel like me.

Exiled Strawberry Fairy

Striking a Pose (by Brandy Rasmuson)

I spend a fair amount of time hanging out in Kavar’s workshop watching him make hair. He thinks I must be bored to tears, but it’s a lot of fun seeing the whole process from first placed prim to final hair ready to sell in Exile. His latest hair, Runway 1, started as a goof as he was placing several partially finished sections just randomly on top of each other, and then I stopped laughing as I realized I liked the way it was shaping up. I asked him if I was crazy to think that, and he agreed with me that there was a shape there worth exploring as a runway style, so he deconstructed it all and then carefully put some of the pieces back together and added new pieces to create the final Runway 1 hairstyle.

The first time I saw the hair with the wild ribbons running through it, I knew I was going to love it, but I didn’t know I was going to fall so hard for the cotton candy shade in it. There’s just something gorgeous about the way the highlights of the texture follow the sculpted prim pieces in the front, and I find myself coming back to it again and again and building outfits around it. The fact that there are so many textures for the ribbon is just a bonus.

I’ve also fallen for the fun and whimsical designs from Katat0nik Pidgeon, and I adore her beautiful strawberry legwarmer boots. These particular ones were a group gift that I’ve been wearing a lot since she sent them out. You can see more of these and matching dresses at her shop, but for this look, I mixed together some other pieces and became a silly fairy with an unexplainable fondness for pink. I love it when an outfit comes together so easily, and I immediately flew to Chakryn Forest for some photos.
